NR5008My Onkyo NR-5008 receiver had been showing signs of a well documented hardware problem for months.

  • No speakers show up as being connected.

  • The network setting menu item is also grey'd out.

See http://www.avsforum.com/t/1455911/onkyo-hdmi-failures/180#post_24625838 for the details.

Since I am the developer for the Java implementation of the Onkyo eISCP, this is a big problem for me :(

Onkyo stepped up!
I sent my NR5008 in today for Free repair.  I followed the instructions they posted on AVS: http://www.avsforum.com/forum/90-receivers-amps-processors/1455911-onkyo-hdmi-failures-9.html#post26735194

I let up know how it goes...

Its been about 4 weeks and its on its way back!

It arrived back and its fixed!

BUSTED AGAIN after about a year!

I will try a DIY repair now.

There are six 100μF 16V caps on this board. Four on one side (8912, 8915, 8918, 8921) and two on the other side (8901, 3104).

For replacement I used Panasonic FM series type A Low Impedance 100μF/25V 105°C caps.

Everything works fine now. Thank you very much for this thread!

Bottom line: Even though they tried, I'm done with this brand.
